Fractional CO2 Laser

What Is Fractional CO2 Laser?

Skin can look younger, feel smoother and firmer with Fractional CO2 Laser treatments. A groundbreaking new technique, this process works by penetrating the skin’s surface with tiny beams of light which penetrate into the deeper layers. Increasingly popular for treating everything from acne scarring to sun damage to wrinkles, the fractional CO2 laser is a non-invasive treatment that really can perform miracles.

Billed as one of the best non-invasive anti-aging breakthrough treatments around, the fractional CO2 laser delivers safe and effective skin resurfacing results. The fractional CO2 laser works by targeting tiny beams of light into the deep layers of the skin, which gives a powerful boost to the body’s natural healing and collagen producing process. Only microscopic areas of skin are treated at a time, while adjacent skin is left untreated. This produces better results and quicker healing time. Older CO2 lasers would treat 100% of the surface area of the skin, resulting in lengthy healing time and unwanted side effects. The fractional laser technology treats about 30% of the skin and only requires a few days of downtime.

Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment Areas

Our cosmetic patients are very satisfied with the results of fractional CO2 laser treatments. This laser, with its targeted beans of light, can help improve various areas on the face and body. The fractional CO2 laser effectively treats:

  • Fine lines
  • Loose skin on the face
  • Wrinkles
  • Sun damage
  • Acne scars
  • Age spots
  • Pigmentation issues
  • Surgical scars
  • Brow lift
  • Laser eyelid lift

Fractional CO2 Lasers as an Alternative to Plastic Surgery

As we step away from surgical procedures as the primary way to deliver skin rejuvenation and a youthful look, fractional CO2 lasers are at the forefront of this new way of thinking. Going under the knife has many risks as well as a lot of downtime. Plastic surgery can also make you look as though you’ve had work done. Laser treatments, such as fractional CO2 laser, will refresh and rejuvenate your look, but not alter it. By resurfacing the skin, lasers have the ability to dramatically improve and even tighten the skin.

Best in Class Fractional CO2 Lasers

At Schweiger Dermatology, we have invested in the most advanced and cutting edge fractional CO2 lasers for use on our patients. We are proud to offer the Fraxel Re: pair, TotalFX, Matrix CO2 and MiXto lasers. The Fraxel laser is probably the best known out of all the fractional lasers.
Our cosmetic dermatologists will determine which laser is best for your skin type after a careful evaluation of your skin and lifestyle.

What to Expect During a Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment

While the fractional CO2 laser treatments typically only cause mild discomfort, we do offer topical numbing creams to all patients prior to treatment. A topical numbing cream can take up to 45 minutes to take effect. We also offer the option of a mild sedative or narcotic prior to treatment. After the skin is numbed, your provider will focus the laser on the areas of concern. The entire procedure will take about 1 hour and will feel similar to pins and needles on the skin. You can expect some redness right after the treatment and that redness will last for about 24 hours. You should allow for about 3-5 days of downtime before resuming normal activities. The skin will begin to peel and then after 7 days, it will look pink. After about two weeks, the skin will enjoy optimal results from the fractional CO2 treatment.

About Schweiger Dermatology Group

Schweiger Dermatology Group was founded to help make excellent dermatology care accessible throughout the Northeast. In 2010, Dr. Eric Schweiger started the practice with a single location in Midtown Manhattan. When he saw the need for high-quality dermatology care that did not require weeks or months of waiting to see a qualified provider, his vision of a multi-location practice was born.
