About Steven Garner, MD
Dr. Garner is a board-certified plastic surgeon at Schweiger Dermatology Group.
He has more than three decades of expertise in plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine with a patient-centered philosophy focused on natural results and comprehensive care. Dr. Garner is the founder and medical director of UltraDerm MedSpa in Santa Cruz, where he now devotes his full-time efforts while continuing to provide selective surgical care.
Dr. Garner received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Boston University. He completed his internship in surgery and residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at the University of Iowa, followed by a plastic surgery residency at the University of Southern California.
He later completed a craniofacial-maxillofacial fellowship at the University of Miami. He is board certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
After moving to Santa Cruz in 1993, he established a solo private practice and developed UltraDerm MedSpa from the ground up. He has served on the plastic surgery faculty at Stanford University and the University of Texas, and has been an oral examiner for the American Board of Plastic Surgery since 2018. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Garner has provided emergency plastic surgery care at local hospitals and volunteered for international surgical missions in countries including Croatia, Colombia and Bangladesh, performing procedures ranging from cleft lip repairs to burn reconstruction and cancer surgery. He also supports global medical education by offering expert surgical guidance to physicians in developing nations through online forums.
