Cellulite: What it is and how to get rid of it
What is cellulite and how best to treat it?
Would you believe that 9 out of 10 women have cellulite? It may seem as though every woman on your daily social media scrolls have smooth, dimple-free skin—thanks to all of the filters and airbrushing. What you think is perfectly smooth skin on a celebrity or influencer is often smoke and mirrors with retouching. Even though we all know that the perfect skin we see is often impossible for every person to obtain, it nevertheless causes women to have major self-esteem issues. When you try on a new summer swimsuit, you may not feel confident enough to wear it because of the appearance of your legs. Creams and lotions and potions do not work for cellulite—and if they do–the results are miniscule and temporary. It doesn’t need to be like that anymore, thanks to Qwo; the first and only FDA-approved injectable for moderate to severe cellulite dimpling in the buttocks of adult women.
Cellulite does not equal fat
One of the first things to understand is there is a misconception that cellulite is a fat problem. It’s absolutely not, and it’s not your fault that you have it. Cellulite is a skin problem, primarily a structural problem. Women have rubber like bands of collagen in their skin called fibrous septae. These bands run vertically between the surface of the skin and into the deepest layers of tissue. When the fibrous bands are not long enough, they pull the skin down which causes the “dimpled” look. Fat cells get trapped between the septae which gives cellulite that dimpled appearance. The fat that is in this area is not burned for fuel in the body but is present mainly for cushioning. Since it cannot be burned, it can’t be improved with diet and exercise. It must be attacked at the root cause-the fibrous bands.
What is Qwo for treatment of cellulite?
Qwo works by injecting special enzymes, called collagenases, which have been shown to target the fibrous bands. Qwo dissolves the fibers, which releases the skin from that pulling effect that causes dimpling. A series of three Qwo treatments is undertaken every 21 days. The treatments are performed in as little as 15 minutes per treatment. Patients are reporting visible results in as little as 10 weeks! There is no downtime to Qwo treatment. Most patients report a little soreness and bruising but this may resolve within a few days.
