Spring Clean Your Skincare Routine

Glowing spring flowers

Happy spring! It’s finally time to lighten the load—with your wardrobe as well as your skincare. The start of a new season is a great time to switch up your skincare routine. Start spring cleaning with new and healthy skin habits and products.

Here are five tips to spring clean your skincare routine:

Transition to lighter skincare products!

In the winter, people tend to layer their makeup and skincare products but with the increase in temperature and humidity, lighter products are the way to go. One product to lighten up on is moisturizer. Winter based moisturizers tend to be heavy in order to protect your skin but in the summer the same moisturizers can feel like a mask on your skin. Try a light water-based moisturizer to keep your face feeling bright and fresh all season long.

Throw out your unused and expired makeup!

Leaving your makeup past its expiration date is a habit People tend to keep their makeup way past their expiration dates. The problem is that makeup and skin care products tend to expire and the longer you keep them the bigger the chance is for bacteria buildup and breakouts. Also, if you’re not using products, throw them out! Be honest with yourself and invest in products that work for you and your skin.

Add sunscreen to your makeup routine!

You should be wearing sunscreen every day, no matter the season, but if you haven’t done so yet, Spring is a great time to start! Apply sunscreen (broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher) then start with the rest of your makeup/skincare routine. Also stay away from spay on sunscreen, according to Schweiger Dermatology Group’s Dr. Rachel Nazarian, “half of it goes into the air, barely any of it gets onto your skin, you’re breathing in half of it. It’s just not the right way to get good coverage.”

Wash your makeup brushes!

Makeup brushes and sponges build up large amounts of bacteria and grime with each use. This means that the less you wash them, the more bacteria is heading straight for your face If you’re using brushes daily begin washing them at the end of the week. Try keeping a weekly schedule and investing in a brush cleaner device to save time. Your skin will thank you for it!

Get a facial treatment

Spring is a great time to treat yourself. From chemical peels and microneedling to laser treatments and Hydrafacials, there are many different options that actually boost your skin’s natural rejuvenating abilities.
