He earned his Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and his MD, from Temple University in Philadelphia. He completed a categorical medicine internship at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California, before serving as a Medical Officer aboard the USS Cleveland.

He is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and American Society of Mohs Surgery, and a member of both the Orange County Dermatology Society and the California Dermatology Society.
