Medical and Surgical Hair Restoration
Schweiger Dermatology has partnered with Bernstein Medical to offer state-of-the-art hair restoration treatments
Bernstein Medical is on the forefront of hair restoration with its pioneering work in Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Robotic hair transplants. As an authority in the treatment of hair loss, we provide the most advanced care for our patients.
Robotic Follicular Unit Extraction is a hair transplant procedure in which the ARTAS Robotic System is used to harvest the individual follicular unit grafts and create recipient sites with unparalleled precision and consistency. The procedure leaves no linear scarring and has minimal post-op limitations.
Follicular Unit Transplantation is a procedure where the surgeon removes a strip of hair about 1 cm wide from the back of the scalp. The strip is then dissected into individual follicles which are placed into the balding area.
Platelet Rich Plasma is a three-step medical treatment in which a patient’s blood is drawn, spun to extract growth factors, and then injected back into the balding areas.
Medications serve an important role in both the prevention and treatment of hair loss. They are particularly useful in the early stages of the balding process.
Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP) is a medical-grade scalp tattoo that serves as a permanent cosmetic camouflage. SMP mimics the appearance of a closely shaved head and can be used on scars or balding areas. SMP offers an alternative for patients who are not candidates for hair transplant surgery and is particularly helpful in women with thinning hair to make their hair appear more full.
Robert M. Bernstein M.D.
Dr. Bernstein pioneered the gold standard for hair restoration, Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) in 1995 – the procedure that, for the first time, produced results that could mimic nature. He introduced Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) in 2002, further transforming the industry by eliminating the need for a linear donor scar.Innovation at Bernstein Medical continued in 2011 when Bernstein Medical was one of the first practices to use the ARTAS Robotic System for Follicular Unit Extraction. Many software and hardware advances have been made to the robot with the advice of Dr. Bernstein and many new iterations of the robot are beta-tested at Bernstein Medical.
Dr. Bernstein has served as a teacher and mentor to hair restoration surgeons from around the world and has recently hosted the first ever ARTAS Hair Restoration Master Class. He is the recipient of the “Platinum Follicle Award,” the highest award given by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), for his outstanding achievement in basic scientific or clinical research in hair restoration and the impact he has had on the industry. Dr. Bernstein and his staff continue to put their expertise and drive for a better patient experience, to work every day.

Dr. Shaver aims to bring her training in SMP to Bernstein Medical.
