How to Brighten Your Skin for Spring
Spring often brings with it an urge to reset — and this applies to your skin, too. According to the Manhattan dermatologist Dr. Rachel Nazarian, there is an uptick in patients requesting brighter, clearer skin during this time of the year. For many, it’s a seasonal remedy for the dull dryness — or the “gray skin” effect, as her patients call it — that sets in during the winter, when humidity drops.
While there are many professional-strength solutions to experiment with — from chemical peels to ablative lasers — experts often advise starting at home with brightening serums. Applied after cleansing and under a moisturizer, these concentrated elixirs are designed to smooth and exfoliate the surface of the skin so it better reflects light. The latest serums are supercharged with ingredients, such as peptides and hyaluronic acid, that work together to target different skin types — for noticeable brightening that lasts.
