The 5 Best Concealers for Acne-Prone Skin, According to Dermatologists
Concealer is by far my favorite makeup product. There’s something about making old dark spots and annoying zits disappear with the swipe of a wand (literally) that feels like magic. Not only does concealer help me to even out awkward areas on my face—like that spot between the bridge of my nose and under my eye—but it also comes in handy for quick touch-ups when I’m not in the mood for a full face of makeup.
One thing I’m never in the mood for is a face full of breakouts. For those of us who are acne-prone, choosing makeup products that work with our skin type is key. “Acne-prone skin types should avoid heavy or occlusive concealers that are oil-based, as they’re more likely to block pores and trigger pimples,” Rachel Nazarian, M.D., of Schweiger Dermatology Group in New York City, tells SELF. “These types of concealers will be labeled with the word ‘noncomedogenic,’ indicating that they’re unlikely to clog pores, and passed laboratory testing to prove it.”
