About Tian Ran (Richard) Zhu, MD
Dr. Tian Ran (Richard) Zhu is a board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon at Schweiger Dermatology Group.
He specializes in Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatologic oncology, cosmetic dermatologic surgery, laser procedures, and complex medical dermatology. He is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care while advancing the field through research, education, and clinical innovation.
Dr. Zhu grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, graduating with Highest Distinction. Following college, he completed a two-year Intramural Research Training Award at the National Institutes of Health Vaccine Research Center, where he developed a strong foundation in clinical and translational research.
He earned his medical degree from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where he was awarded the Warren Alpert Academic Scholarship to study head and neck oncology and facial reconstructive surgery. He completed his internship at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital before pursuing a Dermatopharmacology Fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine–Montefiore Medical Center. During fellowship, he led more than ten industry-sponsored clinical trials and received the Skin of Color Society Research Grant.
Dr. Zhu subsequently completed his dermatology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine–Montefiore Medical Center, followed by advanced fellowship training in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology as well as Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery. Throughout his training, he was recognized for his excellence in patient care, education, and research, receiving the Outstanding House Officer Award, the Leo M. Davidoff Award for Excellence in Teaching, and induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
In clinical practice, Dr. Zhu treats a broad spectrum of dermatologic conditions and specializes in skin cancer treatment, reconstructive surgery, cosmetic rejuvenation, laser procedures, and clinical trials. He is committed to delivering individualized treatment plans that prioritize both optimal medical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Zhu enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring hiking trails, rock climbing, playing basketball and tennis, and supporting Bay Area sports teams.
