About Joel Brooks, DO, MPH, FACP, FACAAI, FAAAAI
Dr. Joel Brooks is a board-certified allergist and immunologist with expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex allergic and immunologic conditions.
He serves on the faculty at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and is actively engaged in clinical care, research, and medical education.
Dr. Brooks earned his medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at UPMC Lititz Hospital, where he also served as Chief Resident. He then pursued fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology at Yale School of Medicine. During his fellowship, he also earned a Master of Public Health from the Yale School of Public Health, with a focus on global health and social and behavioral sciences, and completed the Fellows as Medical Educators certificate program.
Dr. Brooks began his academic career at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, where he served as a staff allergist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He also served as Site Director for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Allergy and Immunology Fellowship. He later joined Columbia University, where he practiced as an attending allergist at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital within the Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology. During this time, he served as Associate Program Director of the Allergy and Immunology Fellowship Training Program and as Director of Education for the division.
In clinical practice, Dr. Brooks specializes in the management of food allergies, drug allergies, angioedema, and asthma. He has published extensively in scientific journals and presented his research at national and international meetings. He is an active leader in the field, serving on multiple committees for the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. He has received numerous professional awards and has been featured on national television media outlets.
When not working, you can find Dr. Brooks running Central Park in preparation for his next race, rock climbing, reading, learning to cook, and exploring New York City’s live music scene.
