About Matthew Chiang, MD
Dr. Matthew Chiang is a board-certified allergist and immunologist who provides comprehensive specialty care for adults and children.
He diagnoses and treats a broad spectrum of allergic and immunologic conditions, from common environmental allergies and asthma to complex immune disorders. His approach to patient care emphasizes careful listening, clear explanations, and individualized, evidence-based treatment.
Dr. Chiang graduated with Highest Distinction (summa cum laude) from the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cell Biology. He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine before completing his Internal Medicine residency at UCLA/Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. He went on to complete fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center.
Prior to joining Schweiger Dermatology & Allergy, Dr. Chiang served as an Allergy and Immunology specialist and Partner Physician with Kaiser Permanente Southern California, where he managed a high-volume clinical practice while consistently earning patient satisfaction scores above 9.9 out of 10. He has extensive experience performing allergy testing, allergen and venom immunotherapy, biologic therapies, oral food challenges, drug allergy evaluations, and medication desensitization. His clinical interests include seasonal and environmental allergies, asthma, food and drug allergies, eczema, chronic hives, angioedema, chronic sinus conditions, eosinophilic esophagitis, and immune deficiencies.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Chiang led the implementation of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) testing to improve asthma phenotyping and disease monitoring and contributed to regional initiatives focused on standardizing severe asthma and anaphylaxis care. He also participated in a range of clinical research studies, including the ASTERIA phase III trial of Xolair (omalizumab) for chronic spontaneous urticaria. Throughout his tenure, he taught and mentored residents and fellows.
Dr. Chiang values building strong, collaborative relationships with his patients and ensuring that treatment decisions reflect their individual needs, concerns, and priorities. He is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese.
