Botox® Has Many Uses

BotoxBotox® has many uses beyond cosmetics, providing anti-aging benefits. It is a unique injectable that can also relieve certain medical conditions.

Botox® for Forehead Lines

Botox® injections for forehead lines are among the most commonly requested treatments in our dermatology practice. Botox® works by blocking the signals from the nerves to the muscles. Botox® helps erase those horizontal lines on the forehead that get deeper with age and make you look years older than your actual age. The longer you use Botox®, the better your skin will look.

When Botox® is performed regularly, it’s also a preventative measure and can prevent new wrinkles from forming. Botox injections performed by an experienced and licensed provider erase deep creases and wrinkles while still allowing for movement in the injected area. The final result will make you look younger and refreshed, not frozen.

Botox® for Under Eye Issues

One of the best areas for Botox® injections is the eye area, particularly under the eyes and around the eyebrows. Botox® under the eyes is also often referred to as a “no-knife eyelift” or a “Botox® brow lift,” as it helps to give the eye area a younger and more lifted look. As we age, the eyelids can become heavy and make you look tired and older.

A surgical eyelift used to be the only answer, but Botox® can help you achieve a non-surgical eyelift. When injected to treat crow’s feet, Botox® relaxes the muscles that contribute to that droopy eyelid look, reducing the appearance of those creases under the eyes.

Botox® for Lips

Botox® injections placed around the lips can help with reducing fine lines. It is not used on the lips but around the lip area. If you are seeking a plumper look for the lips, a dermal filler containing hyaluronic acid can help add natural-looking fullness to the lips.

Botox® injections can also correct a “gummy” smile when strategically injected into the upper lip.

Botox® can also treat the frown lines around the mouth that make you look sad or upset.

Botox® for Migraines

Botox® for migraines was approved in 2010 for adults who get chronic migraines. Botox® injections are placed into the face, head, and neck muscles. Treatment interrupts pain transmission between the brain and nerves that extend from the spinal cord.

Botox® for Depression

Research studies have recently reported that Botox® can improve symptoms of depression when injected in the area in between and directly above the eyebrows. Botox inhibits the muscle (between the eyebrows where frown lines appear) and calms it down, making it more difficult to feel negative emotions such as fear, anger, and sadness.

Botox for Excessive Sweating

Botox®, the popular anti-wrinkle treatment, is also FDA-approved for excessive sweating. Botox® injections are incredibly effective at completely shutting down the sweat production in problem areas such as the underarms, the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet, the groin, and the scalp. These injections prevent the release of the neurotransmitters that signal the sweat glands to activate.

Botox® for Men

The number of men seeking cosmetic treatments has increased significantly in recent years, with terms like “Brotox” and “metrosexual” becoming a part of our regular vernacular. Many men want to have a more youthful appearance in a competitive workplace. Botox injections are one of the most common cosmetic procedures requested by men.

About Schweiger Dermatology Group

Schweiger Dermatology Group was founded to help make excellent dermatology care accessible throughout the Northeast. In 2010, Dr. Eric Schweiger started the practice with a single location in Midtown Manhattan. When he saw the need for high-quality dermatology care that did not require weeks or months of waiting to see a qualified provider, his vision of a multi-location practice was born.
