Sculptra Filler

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra filler is a dermal filler that is placed below the skin to add volume and fill in deep folds of the face.  It is unique because it not only fills in folds, such as the nasolabial folds (smile lines), but it stimulates your body’s own collagen production; this process results is longer lasting results and more dramatic improvement of volume depletion.  In fact, Sculptra was originally used to treat lipoatrophy (loss of fat) associated with long term use of certain medications.  We continue to use it to treat those people who can benefit from Sculptra due to the side effects of medications, but now also use it to add volume for both men and women who have experienced the normal volume loss that comes with aging.

How Does Sculptra Work?

Sculptra is a unique dermal filler composed of an ingredient called poly-l-lactic acid.  This ingredient not only fills in deep folds, but stimulates your own collagen to reverse areas of volume loss.  This is particularly useful when improving the appearance of cheeks and hollowing of the midface.  Sculptra filler treatment is usually performed over a series of three visits.  Each visit, Sculptra is placed in the desired area and begins to stimulate collagen production.  Unlike other dermal fillers, the results of Sculptra are not instantly appreciated.  After the short series of treatments, the effect is dramatic and the results last for up to 5 years!

What to Expect During Sculptra Treatment

Upon arriving for your Sculptra treatment, we will first discuss the needs of your skin and your goals for treatment.  Once we have discussed our plan, a thin layer of numbing cream may be applied to your skin.  However, even without numbing cream, Sculptra is a very comfortable procedure, as the material itself is mixed with a numbing medication prior to treatment.  Sculptra is placed just below the skin using a series of tiny injections.  After the placement, we will gently massage the area and instruct you on how to appropriately massage the treated area at home in the days following your treatment.

Best Sculptra Treatment Areas

The best areas for Sculptra treatment are the areas of the face that can benefit from volumizing.  Unlike other dermal fillers, Sculptra is not recommended for use under the eyes or in the lip.  Sculptra is excellent for filling in and volumizing areas that require a greater replenishment of volume.  The most commonly treated areas include the nasolabial folds (smile lines), hollowing of the midface, the cheeks, and the temples.  The effects of Sculptra are dramatic, but natural looking.  Some people even refer to it as the injectable plastic surgery, due to its long-lasting results.
