Tara Rao, M.D., F.A.A.D. is a board- certified dermatologist at Schweiger Dermatology Group. Dr. Rao practices general dermatology with interests in dermatologic surgery and laser procedures.
Dr. Rao graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) and received her medical degree from the NYU School of Medicine. She spent a year conducting research at the National Institutes of Health (N.I.H.), one of the world’s foremost medical research centers, where she studied rare inherited skin disorders, including those with a propensity for UV-induced skin cancer. She completed a rigorous dermatology residency at the prestigious UT Southwestern Medical Center where she received the department award for Humanism and Professionalism. Following her residency, Dr. Rao was appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at UT Southwestern. Since then, she has moved to Manhattan where she has been in private practice and currently serves as volunteer faculty at the Mount Sinai Hospital, where she teaches Dermatology dermatology residents.
Dr. Rao actively cultivates her diagnostic and procedural skills so as to take excellent medical and surgical care of her patients. She has a special interest in dermoscopy to identify concerning moles at an early stage. She performs surgical procedures including the removal of various skin cancers, abnormal moles, lipomas and cysts. She seeks to educate patients and formulate solutions to help them achieve their best skin health and overall well-being.
She is focused on the safe use of lasers for all skin types and colors to treat sun damage, aging, discoloration, scarring, vascular and pigmented lesions. Dr. Rao works with her patients to develop thoughtful and conservative treatment plans based on their interests in various therapies.
Dr. Rao is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Derm Surgery, Women’s Dermatologic Society, and the Skin of Color Society. Outside of work, she enjoys practicing yoga and spending time with family and friends.
